Tuesday, June 22...

If you haven't been to one of the free concerts at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk (every Thursday night all summer before, during and after the free fireworks) this is a good week to try it out. One of the most unique bands you'll ever see are coming to town for Thursday night's 6:30 pm concert.

The Slomski Brothers from Richmond, VA bring their odd version of Vaudeville to the Gazebo stage. With one playing a ukulele and the other on a steel drum, these guys mix jokes, stories, banter, folk music and a little family antagonizing to create a memorable show.

But wait there's more! (I've always wanted to say that.) They're also being backed up by Knoxville, Tenessee's greatest 6-member, all-bearded, washboard, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer and upright bass band. (OK the only one -but seriously, they're great.) Check out this review from Knoxville.com to try and understand the Bearded. (Or go their website to listen.) Mix the two acts together and you get...something. We don't know what to call it, but we'll be the first to find out.

If Thursday's family atmosphere isn't your cup of tea, then see them Friday at the Blackhorn Bar & Kitchen.
(9pm) The show is sure to be more raunchy. You might not believe that they're the same guys.
