Bears? - not likely
Since a bear popped up in Landfall, I've been asked if we ever get any down here. The answer is yes, and no.
I interviewed a park ranger from Carolina Beach State Park and he told me that it would be very clear if we had bears down here. Quite simply, if we did they would be in the trash at the campgrounds. Plain and simple.
He went on to say that bears will occasionally swim across from Brunswick County (chased by hunters), but return shortly after because there just isn't enough to eat over here.
The Sea Witch is coming back
I haven't been able to contact the owner, but apparently the Sea Witch Cafe will re-open this summer. Go check it out - they're working on it right now.
(No word yet on the motel.)
Must we buy all this crap?
I've been on a major rant lately about all the garbage from China we buy each other. (It's kind of an annual rant.) Let's see, we spend $20 we don't have, to buy Aunt Jean a trinket that she doesn't need. The money goes to China and the trinket goes to the landfill. Bad for the country. Bad for the economy. Bad for the environment. Bad for us.
So I decided to spend the holidays boycotting anything made in China. It's been tough. On our website I have documented how impossible it is to get through the holidays without buying Chinese produced crap.
Read it here.
In that spirit, here are some good ideas for gift giving:
Copper Guinea Farms
Here's a perfect little gift. Copper Guinea Farms makes awesome organic muffin mixes. They're $3.50 apiece and wrapped nicely. You can send some to out of town family. It's the thought that counts right? So think. Don't just buy trinkets from China.
They also have cool jars of honey and other neat stuff. All organic. All local. You can just call Molly to ask about her cool products at (910) 283-9578.
Let's recap: Inexpensive, local, natural, actually gets used. Don't spend your hard earned money on Chinese crap!
Here are some other local, nonwasteful ideas
Sandy's Candies - Can you go wrong with handcrafted, locally made, personalized chocolates and sweets? (910) 520-9326
The Fudgeboat - They ship anywhere. They send the fudge in cute little boxes. People love it. Order online.
Wines - I wish everyone would just get me a bottle of wine. It really is the best thing to do. You dont have to be boring. How about a nice port, saki, or chianti? Get them something they don't usually try.
Call Divine Wines at (910) 791-1251 or 2 Wine Guys at (910) 458-6033

NFL Logos you've never seen
When Baltimore was bidding for an expansion team in 1994 they were going to call their team the Bombers! A pretty cheesy name I know, but they had a cool logo. The Dolphins almost switched to this interesting looking helmet, but backed off.
I found this cool website that shows every NFL logo ever, plus Some prototypes that were never used.
Check it out here.
It's Christmas in heaven every day!
I know this because Monty Python tells me so.
Happy Holidays from Snow's Cut Monthly!
