Mars will be pretty, but that's all
Last night on the beach it was so bright that you could read a newspaper (or preferably a magazine). In the eastern sky there was a giant full moon and Mars was shining bright as well.
A gullible friend recently told me that Mars was passing close to the Earth and it would soon appear as big as the moon in the sky. If someone tells you this, ignore them. Read more here.
That being said, Mars is relatively close and it's looking quite nice. I suggest a nice moonlight stroll this weekend.
Yes - All three boat ramps may be closed
If you read the Star-News this morning, you saw that they confirmed what I reported here two weeks ago. Read article here.
The Wildlife boat ramp on Annie Drive will close this fall for some nice repairs. The State Park boat ramp is already closed for repairs and probably won't open until next June. Erik Christofferson of the Wildlife Resources Commission tells me that they're trying to work with the State Park to help them get opened as quickly as possible, but there's probably not much they can do.
Meanwhile, it's looking like the Fort Fisher Basin boat ramp will finally be renovated this fall as well. Look on the bright side - all three boat launch areas will soon be sparkling and new.

Call for vendors
The 7th Annual Southern Coastal Bluegrass Festival is coming to Fort Fisher this September 19 & 20.
If you or someone you know is interested in being an arts & crafts or food vendor please call Jerry at 547-7969 or visit their website for information. Special considerations may be made for people who will work their crafts at the festival. (i.e. glassblowing, pottery, painting etc...).
"I would like to thank everyone for the support and encouragement I received when announcing my candidacy for Town Council. Unfortunately at this time all of my attention and energy has to be devoted to my family. I want to wish all the candidates good luck and know all of them want only the best for Carolina Beach." - Mike K
